buying and selling ETFs

This is probably obvious to just about anyone, but in reading about index mutual funds vs etf, one can lose sight of the fact that actually purchasing ETFs can only be done when the exchange is open, IE "business hours" on the weekdays.

Presumably ETFs traded on foreign exchanges would trade on different days due to timezone differences.
